From River to Road, Sterett Crane Offloads Three Massive Barge Deliveries.

Teamwork on the river. Sterett Crane is partnering with the Henderson County Riverport Authority to offload three massive pieces of equipment from barge to ground in Henderson, KY. Using the power of our LTM 1400 and LTM 1650, we safely lifted, set, and hauled each load to its final destination in Franklin, KY. Recently, our team showcased that expertise with an operation at the Henderson County Riverport, offloading three massive components delivered by barge on the Ohio River, destined for Franklin, Kentucky.

The Challenge

This project involved three oversized loads, each requiring meticulous  planning and coordination:

• Load 1: 342,000 lbs
• Load 2: 262,000 lbs
• Load 3: 154,000 lbs

Each piece needed to be lifted from barge to shore with absolute precision, then transferred onto specialized Goldhofer multi-axle transport trailers for the journey to Franklin, KY.

The Equipment: LTM 1650 + LTM 1400

To execute these lifts, we paired two of our powerhouse cranes—the Liebherr LTM 1650 and Liebherr LTM 1400—for a perfectly synchronized tandem pick. This configuration provided the lifting capacity and stability needed to handle the enormous weights while maintaining complete control from start to finish.

• LTM 1400: A proven heavy-lifter, offering  outstanding performance and reliability.

The Process

1. Barge Arrival: Each load arrived via barge at  Henderson County Riverport.
2. Tandem Pick Execution: Our operators performed precise  tandem lifts, coordinating boom angles, load balance, and swing radius  prior to takeoff.
3. Trailer Placement: Once hoisted, each piece was set  onto multi-axle trailers, engineered for transporting extreme  loads over road.
4. Transport to Franklin: Each unit was hauled  individually to its final destination, with expert route planning and  permitting to ensure safe passage.
