Sterett Crane’s sister company, Hydraulic Platform Trailers, just took delivery of Scheuerle’s new and innovative transportation solution, The Highway Giant.

HIGHWAY GIANT

The qualities of variable vehicle concepts are undisputed – the vehicle can thus be adapted exactly to suit the cargo being transported and fulfill the statutory framework conditions at the place of operations. The new development from SCHEUERLE for its American customers, Sterett Crane & Rigging, Owensboro KY, is extremely flexible along with having the lowest tare weight. SCHEUERLE´s HighwayGiant Dual Lane Trailer can now be approved for use in most US states, and has set new standards in this vehicle segment.

Regulations concerning load distribution on roads and bridges vary and depend very much on country-specific legislation. This also applies to the USA: each state stipulates specific load support and precisely regulates wheelbases and the distribution of the load on roads or bridges. Here, it is especially important for manufacturers of heavy-duty vehicles to listen very carefully and respond to the needs of the customer.

The Dual Lane Trailer HighwayGiant from SCHEUERLE has been specially developed as a flexible vehicle concept in order to fulfil these different requirements found in the North American market. The design not only accommodates the variable vehicle widths but also the possibility to easily widen the vehicle under load. Thus, the loading area can be adapted, on the one hand, to suit the size of the load and, on the other hand, its distribution over the length of the vehicle. In order to achieve an optimal payload/tare weight ratio, the chassis is manufactured using a stable lightweight construction.

As a connection to the towing vehicle, a goose-neck or a draw-bar can be used, and equipment such as spacers or decks can easily be fitted. The centerpiece of the HighwayGiant features the proven pendulum axle technology from SCHEUERLE. The hydraulic cylinders in the pendulum axles have a large displacement volume in order to be able to drive under and pick up loads. The SCHEUERLE pendulum axle mounting guarantees, in connection with the precise and smoothly-operating steering system, easy maneuvering even when negotiating tight bends.

This also supports the large steering angle of up to /- 60 degrees. On request, the Highway Giant is available as a PowerBooster – an innovation and world´s first from SCHEUERLE which was unveiled at this year’s CONEXPO in Las Vegas: with this version, an additional aggregate provides extra thrust when driving and allows the use as a self-propelled vehicle without a tractor. Thus, under certain circumstances, a second tractor is not required during the transport assignment and the cargo can be shunted into position at the final destination even in confined spaces.
